Through the natural process of mimicry, you’ll effortlessly learn traditional and contemporary songs from southern Africa with themes of freedom, love, struggle, joy, and more. Your voice will expand into the rich sonority of tribal languages. Your body will support your voice through simple, adaptable rhythmic movement. You’ll be empowered by the group through dynamic call & response interaction.
This is a singing tradition that comes FROM and still exists FOR community-building, and this is the spirit Val seeks to share in these workshops. These are songs you can use and rely on for community celebration, action, and connection.
